Round 4 BANJOS!

Post  Tommy on Tue Dec 02, 2008 11:08 pm

1. What film is being described in the following quotation? "A young girl embarks on a fantasy adventure to save her stepbrother from the clutches of the Goblin King"

2. Which 1982 mega-flop sequel, which featured a young Michelle Pfeiffer, was described by the Daily Mail as "like being cooped up for two hours inside a combination of juke box and pinball machine, with you as the ball"?

3. Name 3 films in which Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor co-starred.

4. According to David Thomson, which director "comes close to worshipping Kevin Spacey's scholar killer" in his 1995 film that starred the actor?

5. Fill in the blanks in this sequence. 1977: Eraserhead, 1980: ______, 1984: Dune, 1986: _______. Half a point each.

6. Al Pacino has been nominated 8 times in total for an Oscar, but how many of those did he win? And for a smarty-bonus for which films and roles did he win?

7. What film is being described in the following quotation? "In the near future, a class of teenagers is chosen by lottery to be stranded on a remote island and given three days in which to kill one another until only one survives".

8. Which actress connects Jack Nicholson, The Godfather Parts I, II and III and the films of Woody Allen? (i.e. she's co-starred in something with Jack Nicholson, she's in all three Godfather movies and she's in a few Woody Allen films)

9. What is the name of the Whale in Disney's Pinocchio?

10. In which city was Kenneth Branagh born?

I know a lot of the Al Pacino one, but somebody may have to help me with a few of the films.

He's only ever won one Oscar, which was for Scent of a Woman. He was nominated for Godfather one and two, but not Scarface (For some reason). Dog Day Afternoon, and another film which escapes me, that was calllllllled....I don't know. It was a name. Someone else will have to fill the rest of the films in.

Sorry I don't have any idea for the rest. Except number 9, which I'll sleep on.

shizzles:

1 LABYRINTH
2 GREASE 2
3 THE COMEDIANS/DR FAUSTUS/BRIEF ENCOUNTERS
4 BRIAN SINGER
5 1980 ELEPHANT MAN, 1986 BLUE VELVET
6 1 WIN (SCENT OF A WOMAN)
7 BATTLE ROYALE
8 DIANE KEATON
9 MONSTRO
10

1 is Labyrinth, and 7 does sound like Battle Royale.

I'm with you on Battle Royale, and could 4 be the Usual Suspects? That came out about 1995 I'd have thought. I don't see how it relates, but it's the only one I can cerebrate of >.<

Didn't Parv ask the Al Pacino one before? I can't remember what the shizzle was if he did, but it was quite low. I can't actually cerebrate of anything he might have been nominated for, apart from the Godfathers. I guess he probably won for that, or am I being stupid?

He only one won. I know that.

The film I was thinking of was Dick Tracy. I don't have a clue about the rest though.

EDIT: Wtf? I've told you what he won it for!

7 is Battle Royale. The line is taken from the opening text reel at the start of the film.

And I agree with whoever gave the shizzle for 1, it definitely is Labyrinth.

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were in The Comedians together, not sure about the others.

Ah yeah, I remember who they are now. Same guy is in Doctor Faustus? Was Taylor in that? What about Brief Encounter?

Could well be! Cool

EDIT: Hang on. Question 4 isn't asking for the name of the film you cockshiner, it's the director. Brian Singer directed The Usual Suspects.
